Annual pillow fight at West Point turns violent; 30 injured
WEST POINT, N.Y.
An annual freshman pillow fight at the U.S. Military Academy turned bloody this year when cadets swung pillowcases packed with hard objects, injuring 30 cadets, according to a newspaper report.
Two dozen cadets suffered concussions in the Aug. 20 bedding melee, though all have since returned to duty, West Point spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker told The New York Times.
Though photos and video of the episode have circulated online for some time, West Point officials didn’t confirm what had happened until Thursday, the newspaper reported. The phone rang unanswered Saturday at the academy’s press office.

Man charged after crashing into barrier at WTC
NEW YORK
Police say a motorist who plowed into a security barrier outside the World Trade Center has been arrested on drunken-driving charges.
A Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police spokesman said the barrier wasn’t damaged in the crash. It happened about 1:30 p.m. Friday at the high-security site in lower Manhattan.
Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said driver Paul Cederdahl of Red Bank, N.J., was swaying and speaking incoherently after crashing his Volvo, and officers found an open bottle of vodka on the passenger-side floor.
No one was injured.
The voice mailbox for a number listed to the 47-year-old Cederdahl wasn’t accepting messages, and it’s unclear whether he has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
