Unity Centre plans week-long prayer observance

Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will celebrate Silent Unity’s International World Day of Prayer as a weeklong event. This year marks the 125th anniversary for Silent Unity, based in Unity Village, Mo. This year’s theme is “Pray Up Your Life, Pray Up The World.” Cay Tomerlin is spiritual leader.
A service at 11 a.m. Sunday will begin the week. Prayers will be shared in Hindu, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Aramaic and Native American languages and come from religions of the world to include Buddhism, Muslim, Hinduism and Christianity.
Healing Arts will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by an introduction to meditative movement from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. using a CD, “Trancendance” by the Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith. This meditation is planned outside at the fountain if the weather permits or in fellowship hall.
Tomerin will teach a “A Leap of Faith” at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Candles will be passed to represent your light shining in prayer and will be followed by a half-hour of meditative silence. Anyone who wants to also may send their name to Silent Unity to have a virtual candle lighted and view it on the world virtual candle map at www.unity.org/wdop/candle.
The official World Day of Prayer is Thursday. The sanctuary will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day for prayer. A Reiki healing circle will be available from 7 to 9 p.m. by Nicole Niewohner, Reiki master and teacher, and recent graduates of her Reiki 1 class.
The week will finish with a drumming circle from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, led by Pam and Dan Susany of BeWell-Drumon. Drumming will be outdoors or in the vestibule. There is a $5 donation for this activity, and drums will be provided.
