Walker struck, killed

CORTLAND

A pedestrian was killed in a 9:08 p.m. Wednesday traffic crash in the southbound on-ramp to state Route 11 from state Route 305 in Fowler Township. The pedestrian, Ronald Shetler of Cortland, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by Kathryn Fatula of Newton Falls, who was driving a Subaru southbound in the on-ramp. Shetler was pronounced dead at the scene, the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Southington Post reported. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor with the pedestrian, the patrol said. The investigation continues.

School bus struck

LIBERTY

A car went left of center Thursday afternoon and struck a Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities bus with five students aboard on Sampson Drive near Churchill-Hubbard Road. None of the students were injured, and were taken home in another bus. The bus driver, Kyle Bailey, 64, of 5001 Herner-County Line Road, Southington, suffered minor wrist injuries, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper. The driver of the car, John Wasko, 43, of 5579 Logan Arms Drive, Liberty, was charged with driving left of center. However, Tammy Smallwood, 40, 7454 John White Road, Hubbard, who came to pick up her child, was cited for operating a vehicle impaired. Her alcohol level was .230, the trooper said. The legal limit is .08.

Burglar sentenced

WARREN

Zachary Keeley, 25, of Berkshire Drive Southeast, is sentenced to six years in prison for a Dec. 6 burglary at a house on Difford Drive in Niles in which $1,126 worth of Christmas gifts and other items were stolen. Kelley received his sentence Thursday from Judge Ronald Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. He also is ordered to make restitution for the theft, and has two burglary cases pending in common pleas court.

Driver sentenced

WARREN

Melanie Ferrell, 43, of addresses in Warren and Champion, is sentenced to nine months in prison for leading police on a high-speed chase May 17 that started at W.D. Packard Music Hall. Ferrell made several turns and drove in the wrong lane in a construction zone on Parkman Road, then traveled east and west on the state Route 5 bypass, weaving around traffic and reaching speeds above 100 mph before crashing into the median, police said. She was sentenced in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Kenmore Avenue Southeast at Grandview and Belle Streets in Warren will be closed from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday for a block party.

Man disrupts traffic

STRUTHERS

Police arrested a Struthers man who was blocking traffic while weaving in and out of cars on foot on Poland Avenue Wednesday evening. A police report states that Edward Wildes, Jr., 49, appeared to be intoxicated and had a Confederate flag draped over his shoulder. Wildes will be arraigned today in Struthers Municipal Court on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Unlocked car theft

STRUTHERS

Police are investigating a theft from an unlocked car reported Wednesday morning. The vehicle’s owner said someone had taken a brand new air conditioner from his car while it was parked overnight in a driveway behind a Sexton Street home.

Boil alert lifted

HUBBARD

A boil alert has been lifted for city residents. Officials had advised residents to boil water after a water main break near North Main Street Wednesday afternoon. The city has since conducted tests and determined the water is safe.
