United Way kicks off annual Day of Caring

YOUNGSTOWN

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley kicked off its 18th annual Day of Caring this morning.

About 700 volunteers gathered for breakfast at the Covelli Centre before being sent out in the community to do volunteer work in conjunction with the organization’s 18 partner agencies and on the South Side.

“We can’t do it alone,” said Bob Hannon, United Way president and chief professional officer.

Additionally, Alan Batey, president of General Motors for North America, was present at the kickoff to support the campaign, before heading off to tour, for the first time, the GM plant in Lordstown where the Chevrolet Cruze is built.

“It’s when we give that we truly make a difference,” he said.
