The Poland library hosted the last event of the Summer Discovery Program season, Reading Saves the Day, on Aug. 10.

Librarian Vikki Peck said she was sad to see the program come to an end but was grateful for the time had during it.

“It’s fun to see all the kids coming in and coming up to the desk and you get to talk to them,” Peck said. “It’s good to see them have fun and see what they’re doing in their activities for the summer.”

Peck said her favorite part of the program was the first prize students received, a book they got to choose from a bin for completing the first goal.

“I love to see what they pick if they’ll show me,” Peck said.

Joanie McNally came to Reading Saves the Day, happy to celebrate the end of the summer and excited for the upcoming school year.

McNally said she enjoyed all of the activities offered by the library throughout the summer.

“I liked it all,” McNally said.

Peck said Reading Saves the Day was a fun way to wrap up the summer reading program.

“We are mostly just doing fun things and kind of just mentioning all of the different kinds of heroes,” Peck said. “Not only do we have superheroes, but we also have historical heroes, real-life heroes and even animal heroes.”

In addition to games, crafts and fun, Peck said this year she brought snacks for everyone to enjoy — something a little different from years previous.
