Family and friends of Joseph “Joey” A. Packner, 30, of Grayson, Ga., formerly of Lowellville, are holding a fundraiser Oct. 4 to help his family with medical and funeral expenses and create a fund for 1-year-old Carter, his son.
The fundraiser, a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and bands performing, was planned before Packner died, but is still going to take place from 2 to 10 p.m. at Lowellville Rod And Gun Club, 6225 Quarry Road. There will also be T-shirts and bracelets for sale.
Packner died Aug. 28, 2015, in the Burn Center at Detroit Receiving Hospital after suffering third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body on Aug. 13 when a pipeline he was working on in Detroit exploded. Funeral services were Friday in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church here, where he was a member.
Dinner cost is $8 for those 13 and older; $5 for kids 4-12; and free for kids 3 and younger. Anyone wishing to donate auction items can call 330-423-9011 or 330-719-5740.
Monetary donations can be made to an account to be set up by Thursday at Huntington Bank.
Packner, a son of Donald Sr. and Michele Rotunno Packner, was a 2004 graduate of Lowellville High School, and was employed by Avpol International LLC.
