Opera Western Reserve’s “The Elixir of Love,SDRq Stambaugh Auditorium Grand Ballroom, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, auditions 7 p.m. Wednesday. OWR is looking for all voices, ages and types for the chorus. Performance will take place Nov. 13. “How the Grouch Saved Christmas,SDRq an original musical directed by Dr. Jeanne Zingale, Penn State Shenango Auditorium, 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon, Pa., auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12. All auditionees will be asked to perform a vocal selection from a familiar Christmas song (most characters sing, but not all), to improvise a short scene as a child’s toy, and to do a cold reading from the script. Call-backs will take place the following Saturday if needed. Participants should note that auditioners will be photographed and videotaped as part of the audition process. Children under age 18 will need a parent or guardian present and written permission to take part in the audition/production. There will be an evening Dec. 4 and matinee Dec. 5 and 6 performances.
