Road work kicks off today in Hubbard city as part of the Ohio Department of Transportation U.S. Route 62 resurfacing program. Milling of pavement begins this morning for the resurfacing of sections of North Main Street and West Liberty Street, but the work will not lead to road closures, Service Director Daniel Livingston, said.
The project’s cost is about $1.5 million. The city will pay approximately $257,000, and the rest of the money will come from state funding, Livingston said.
The state awarded a contract to Shelly & Sands Inc. to carry out the project.
Milling work will continue through Tuesday. After milling is complete, the city will assess the need for full-depth repair to the streets.
Additionally, the city pushed back the start date of its 2015 residential road resurfacing project, which now will begin in mid-September, Livingston said.
The city will resurface Caroline Avenue between West Park Avenue and Wheeler Avenue, Stewart Avenue between West Park Avenue and West Liberty Street, Hall Avenue between West Liberty Street and Hubbard Elementary School, Elmwood Drive between Moore Street and Jerry Drive, Oriole Drive between Melody Lane and Meadowbrook Drive and Clingan Street between Grandview Avenue and Viola Avenue.
The total estimated cost of the residential road resurfacing project is $227,357.
Council passed legislation this summer to authorize the application of crack sealant to six residential streets.
