Junior fair members compete for Outstanding Youth awards

Fourteen local junior fair members are up for the Outstanding Youth awards this year at the 169th Canfield Fair.
The one female winner and one male winner will be announced at 2 p.m. Thursday on the Concourse Stage along with the coronation of the 4-H king and queen.
The Outstanding Youth Award was established to provide an opportunity to recognize youths who are involved in one or more of the seven Junior Fair Youth Organizations: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Future Farmers of America, Camp Fire USA, Farm Bureau, Grange and 4-H, and who go above and beyond to serve their respective organizations and communities.
The nominees are:
Renee Reisner of Salem – 4-H; West Branch High School. Reisner is a 14-year member of the Goshen Good Growers 4-H Club who has volunteered to help with Future Farmers of America activities.
Olivia Wince of Salem – 4-H and Farm Bureau; South Range High School. Wince is a 13-year member of 4-H and active member of Mill Creek My-T-Mites and Greenford Busy Bees.
Erin Styka of Canfield – Girl Scouts and 4-H; Ursuline graduate and freshman at Walsh University. Styka is a 12-year members of Girl Scouts and an eight-year member of the 4-H program.
Alyssa Armstrong of Canfield – Camp Fire USA; Canfield High School. Armstrong is a 10-year member of Camp Fire USA and a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board.
Russell Seymour of Springfield – Boy Scouts and 4-H; Springfield High School. Seymour is an 11-year member of the Boy Scouts and has earned the title of Life Scout.
Maxwell Seymour of Springfield – Boy Scouts; Springfield High School. Seymour is an eight-year member of the Boy Scouts and has earned the title of Life Scout.
Samuel Kulifay of Poland – 4-H; Poland High School. Kulifay is a 10-year member of the Springfield Booster Boys, and he is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board.
Levi Smith of Berlin Center – 4-H; graduate of Western Reserve and current student at Youngstown State University. Smith is 12-year member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. Smith is the 2014 4-H king.
Emily Smith of Berlin Center – 4-H; graduate of Western Reserve and student at YSU. Smith is a 12-year member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. Smith has been a member of the 4-H Royal Court.
Claudia Criss of Salem – Future Farmers of America; West Branch graduate and student at Ohio Christian University. Criss is a four-year member of the FFA and a 12-year member of the Stockmen’s Livestock 4-H Club.
Corey Williamson of New Springfield – 4-H; Mahoning County Career and Technical Center/Springfield Local graduate and student at YSU. Williamson is a 10-year member of the 4-H program and currently a member of the Capriculturists.
Samantha Metts of Lake Milton – Girl Scouts; Jackson Milton graduate and student at YSU. Metts is a 14-year member of the Girl Scouts who is actively working with the younger Girl Scouts and promoting the Girl Scout Program.
Travis Pidgeon of Salem – Future Farmers of America; graduate of West Branch and student at Mount Union College. Pidgeon is a two-year member of the FFA Program, a 13-year member of 4-H and he is a member of the Goshen Good Growers Club.
Katie Prosser of New Middletown – 4-H; Springfield High School. Prosser is a 12-year member of the 4-H Program and a member of the Western Reserve Rangers.
