Progress made at new Hilton in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN

Work is moving forward on the biggest commercial project in the township this year.

Meander Hospitality Group of Canfield will construct a new Home 2 Suites by Hilton in the state Route 46 corridor where the group already runs a Hampton Inn.

“It will be a nice addition to the commercial community,” said Darren Crivelli, Austintown Township zoning inspector.

The Hilton, at 5580 Interstate Blvd., will be four stories with 87 rooms. Crivelli had a pre-construction meeting with the developer in late July.

The zoning department approved the plans for the new hotel about a year ago. After the approval of a soil- erosion plan, the zoning department will issue a permit to start building. Meander Hospitality President David A. Kovass expects to break ground on the new hotel this fall. The grand opening is slated for next fall.

“We are excited about this new concept,” Kovass said.

The Home 2 Suites hotel offers extended-stay perks. Meander opened this type of hotel in Canton about a month ago.

“This is an all-suites property,” Kovass said. “We are excited to bring this to the Valley.”

The last hotel to be built in Austintown is the Candlewood Suites at 5575 Cerni Place. The 77-room hotel opened in 2014.
