Supremacist found guilty of 3 killings

OLATHE, Kan.

The man who admitted killing three people at two suburban Kansas City Jewish sites gave jurors a Nazi salute Monday after they convicted him of murder and other charges for the shootings, which he said would allow him to “die a martyr.”

It took the jury of seven men and five women just over two hours to find Frazier Glenn Miller Jr. guilty of one count of capital murder, three counts of attempted murder and assault and weapons charges.

After the verdict was announced, Miller, 74, of Aurora, Mo., said: “The fat lady just sang,” and he raised his right arm in the Nazi salute. As jurors were filing out of the courtroom later, he told them: “You probably won’t sleep tonight.”

High court rules against Ky. clerk

MOREHEAD, Ky.

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled against the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, and the clerk will arrive at work this morning to face her moment of truth.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis will have to choose whether to issue marriage licenses, defying her Christian conviction, or continue to refuse them, defying a federal judge who could pummel her with fines or order that she be hauled off to jail.

Satellite image shows temple destruction

DAMASCUS, Syria

A satellite image Monday shows that the main building of the ancient Temple of Bel in the Syrian city of Palmyra has been destroyed, a United Nations agency said. The image was taken a day after a massive explosion was set off near the 2,000-year-old temple in the city occupied by Islamic State militants.

Earlier, Maamoun Abdulkarim, the head of the Antiquities and Museums Department in Damascus, said there was conflicting information about the fate of the temple.

But Einar Bjorgo, manager of Geneva-based U.N. satellite analysts UNOSAT, said a satellite image taken Monday “unfortunately shows the destruction of the temple’s main building as well as a row of columns in its immediate vicinity.” Self-help guru Wayne Dyer dies

Wayne W. Dyer, who became the pied piper of the self-help movement with the 1976 publication of his runaway best-seller, “Your Erroneous Zones: Step-By-Step Advice for Escaping the Trap of Negative Thinking and Taking Control of Your Life,” has died at age 75.

Dyer, who published more than 40 books, including such best-selling titles as “I Can See Clearly Now” and “Pulling Your Own Strings,” died Sunday at his home in Hawaii. The cause was a heart attack, his publicist, Lindsay McGinty, told The Associated Press.

Groups: No funds to Planned Parenthood

Anti-abortion groups in Ohio have called on Gov. John Kasich to block Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood, though federal health officials have warned other states that such a move could violate the law.

Ohio Right to Life and a coalition of other anti-abortion groups want Kasich, a Republican presidential contender, to stop taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood.

The groups cite the release of secretly recorded videos by anti-abortion activists showing Planned Parenthood employees describing how they provide fetal tissue from abortions for medical research. Planned Parenthood has said the videos are heavily edited and misleading.

Such tissue donations are illegal in Ohio, and a Planned Parenthood state leader says no donation program exists here.
