Historical society honors Angelo Pezzuolo at dinner

The Lawrence County Historical Society will host its annual Membership and Friends Dinner on Sept. 10 at Cascade Park Pavilion, 1928 E. Washington St. A social will begin at 6 p.m., and the buffet dinner will follow at 6:30. The event is open to the public.

Tickets are $25 and must be purchased by Thursday. They are available at the historical society, 408 N. Jefferson St., online at www.lawrencechs.com, from board members or by calling 724-658-4022.

Angelo Pezzuolo will be this year’s honoree for his dedication to the society, the community and his years in education. He has been a society board member for many years, a committee member and former chairman of the society’s Sports Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of Bessemer High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in administration from Westminster College. He was an elementary and high school teacher in the Mohawk School District, where he was head football and track coach.

He also was employed as a guidance counselor at Lawrence County Vocational Technical School before becoming coordinator of federal programs by the Lawrence County Schools office, which became the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in 1971. While working in Unit IV, he was named executive director in 1992 and kept the position for 15 years.

Pezzuolo played football at YSU and was inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He is a member of the YSU Penguin Club and Football Alumni Board of Trustees.

He received numerous awards including the Governor’s Award for Labor Management Cooperation, Distinguished Educator Award, State Leadership Award and the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units Award for 52 years service to the children of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Pezzuolo resides in North Beaver Township with his wife, Donna. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Garland and Ed Kron, and two grandchildren.
