Even though the singularly aviary sounds of pecking, clucking, cackling and quacking have been silenced at this year’s 169th annual Mahoning County Agricultural Exhibition, Canfield Fair lovers need not squawk. There’s still a whole lot to crow about there this year.
Like all 94 county and independent fairs throughout the Buckeye State this year, our fine-feathered friends have been literally banished from their barns at the 2015 Canfield Fair. The Ohio Department of Agriculture earlier this year declared so in order to protect our state’s $2.3 billion poultry industry from the scourge of the avian flu.
Nonetheless, the fair, which opens tomorrow for its six-day run through Labor Day, offers a cornucopia of high-flying, top-notch attractions, amusements and delights for young and old alike. We’ve cobbled up our own list of 10 good reasons why everyone in the greater Mahoning and Shenango valleys should take part in the quintessential end-of-summer extravaganza in Canfield.
