Bomb threat means early dismissal for Warren schools

WARREN — Warren schools sent out alerts to parents at around noon today indicating that school had been canceled for the rest of the day because of a bomb threat.

The school district did a perimeter search of the buildings and evacuated all students and moved them to evacuation sites, said Steve Chiaro, schools superintendent.

The school district used its internal notification system, which involves messages sent to parents' cell phones.

The message told parents where they could pick up their children, or whether student would be taken home on a school bus, Chiaro said.

The threat was relayed to school officials by a Warren Police Department school resource officer at a little before 11 a.m., Chiaro said.

The threat was not specific to any building.

School buses were deployed at about noon. They were going to operate in the following order: Warren G. Harding High School, then the Lincoln and McGuffy schools, then Willard and Jefferson schools.

Parents were going to be told where the evacuation site is for their child by driving to their child's school building.

Parents picking up their child must present a valid photo ID.
