Spartan cross country places sixth at districts

Senior Ethan Schwendeman ran a career best time of 16:36 and qualified for the 2015 OHSAA Regional Championship on Oct. 23 at Boardman High School. Schwendeman placed 14th overall at the OHSAA Northeast District Championship, leading the Spartans to a sixth place finish and concluding the team’s season with a 66-50 record.

“Very happy for Ethan,” said Boardman head coach John Phillips. “Last year he just missed qualifying, and this year if anyone deserved to make it out, it would be him. Ethan has been such a great leader these past two seasons and has carried our program during some rough times.”

Junior Chris Butler just missed out on qualifying by placing 17th overall in a career best time of 16:42. Also posting a career best was sophomore Mark Moradian with a 17:54, which earned him 47th place.

“Chris and Mark had great days today and will be expected to lead our team in the future,” said Phillips.

Also running for the Spartan varsity was senior Nathan Hadley with a 17:01 which placed him 27th, junior Nick Digiacomo at 17:39 for 43rd, junior Nathaniel Ams at 18:01in 49th and senior Adam Deeley at 18:28 for 58th, overall.
