On Oct. 9, Poland Union Elementary School invited police officers and their police dogs to a special assembly during Fire Safety Week.

Although they didn’t show off their personal fire safety skills, they were able to show off their discovering skills and answer questions from students about the work they do as a team.

Poland Union Teacher Phyllis Jeswald decided to invite these special guests to tie into what they were working on in class.

“We just read a story about police officer and a police dog so we invited our local police officer so they could see a real police dog,” Jeswald said.

Officer Jackson brought his friend and canine partner, Mido, to meet the students and show them a little of what work they do.

“We’re best friends,” Jackson said.

Mido is trained to detect drugs, people and things that are lost. Mido, who recently turned 2, has been police trained since he was 5-months-old.

“It’s pretty much all he knows is how to be a police dog,” Jackson said. “Mido is very good at everything he does.”
