For Amy Swanson, Two Chicks Boutique is the culmination of a lifelong dream.
The New Middletown native said that ever since she was a little girl, she has wanted to own her own business. Swanson and her business partner, Debbie Pochiro, were fed up with their bartending jobs, and so they opened Two Chicks Boutique, 205 N. Main St., in July.
Pochiro previously had run a clothing store in Las Vegas, and Swanson had experience selling her own soaps, lotions and candles.
Two Chicks Boutique, which operates out of a robin’s egg blue building on North Main Street, specializes in clothing, accessories and bath products handmade by Swanson. Swanson described their wares as trendy yet affordable.
The store gets merchandise from vendors in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and introduces new items each week. Swanson said she originally envisioned a target market of people in their 20s and 30s, but that the store has attracted customers ranging from middle-school students to 70-year-old women.
“My favorite part of this is the people,” she said. “You get to talk to customers from all walks of life.”
Swanson moved to Hubbard for the schools and close-knit atmosphere.
“I wanted my kids to grow up in a small town like I did,” she said.
Swanson says the store, which sells Hubbard Eagles products, benefits from the foot traffic of Hubbard’s downtown.
“The community has been just so supportive,” she said.
Going forward, Swanson and Pochiro plan to add a consignment shop to the back of their store for used clothing and accessories.
