Elton John — The King of Covelli Centre!

Elton it is.

The Covelli Centre marks 10 years as a destination for downtown, for Youngstown, for the Valley, for Northeast Ohio — and for a 4-state region.

What an amazing trek it's been for the old factory site on Front Street.

To mark the honor, we at The Vindy decided to have fun with all the great events that have been there, and possibly find the best. This wasn’t a Presidential vote or IRS-like measuring. It was just fun and unofficial.

We offered 16 events to pick from:

Sir Elton John, Rock the Vote concert with Beastie Boys, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Steelhounds start pro sports, Carrie Underwood, Rod Stewart, 3 Doors Down, Kelly Pavlik fight, Barry Manilow, Panerathon, Motley Crew/Poison, Bill Clinton/Joe Biden, Tim McGraw, James Taylor and pro football arrives with the Thunder.

A salute to readers who immediately questioned the list. Props for suggesting awesome shows from Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Earth, Wind and Fire and Ringling Brothers Circus.

A lot of events could have made the list. Our list was just ours — picked by gut feeling.

And after those 16 acts and a week of voting — Elton it is.

Check out the links below to get a gist of the magic that was his two appearances here in 2010 and 2014.

“Good evening, Youngstown,” Elton John said, addressing the crowd. “It’s great to start off here.”

Throughout the greatest hits concert, John proved he’s still humble, pointing to audience members on all sides of the stage — including behind it — and personally thanking them after each song.
