COLUMBIANA

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $1,800 to the Columbiana County Educational Service Center for a sponsorship of the Columbiana County Youth Leadership Summit.

The summit took place last week at Kent State University Salem Campus. It provided eighth- and ninth-grade students with leadership workshops to help them plan and implement service projects during the 2015-16 school year. Seven local school districts participated, and 70 students attended.

Damage closes road

North Park Avenue between Hyde Shaffer Road and Housel Craft Road is closed due to a damaged guardrail and possible bridge-beam damage. The recommended detour route is west on Hyde Shaffer Road, south on state Route 45, East on Bristol Champion Townline Road and north on North Park Avenue.

Dinner for youth trip

MINERAL RIDGE

First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will host a pasta dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 8 to help send nine youths and the Rev. Jamie Milton on a mission trip to Peru.

The meal will include meatballs, salad, bread, beverage and dessert. Takeouts are available. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 4 to 12 and free for kids 3 and younger.

During the trip, the mission team will visit churches in Lima and partner with an organization that helps women and teen girls who have been victims of domestic violence and abuse. The team needs to raise $20,000 for the trip.
