Mahoning commissioners honor Sister Jerome Corcoran, Rev. Kenneth Simon

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners today honored Sister Jerome Corcoran, founder of the Millcreek Children’s Center and Youngstown Community School, and the Rev. Kenneth L. Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Sister Jerome, who will turn 100 in April, was recognized for her commitment to the needs of Mahoning Valley children for more than 70 years. The Rev. Mr. Simon was recognized for his 20th anniversary as church pastor.

“The two of you have dedicated your lives to taking on the tough issues, whether it’s feeding the poor or whether it’s fighting for the students in the school system. You never shy away from the difficult issues, the ones that are controversial, and it’s people like you that have led the way for the rest of us to have a better place to live,” Commissioner David Ditzler told the honorees.
