Two men were arrested early Monday after attempting to steal a golf cart from Greenwood Chevrolet.

Yusuf J. El-Makdah, 20, of Fremont Avenue in Youngstown, and Garrett M. Wycoff, 18, of Ray Avenue in the township, were both arrested on breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. El-Makdah also was charged with attempted auto theft, a fifth-degree felony, and Wycoff was charged with complicity to theft, a fifth-degree felony.

Both were arraigned Monday afternoon in Mahoning County Area Court here. Both received a $5,000 cash or surety bond and have a preliminary hearing set for 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9.

According to a police report, an officer patrolling the Chevrolet lot, 4665 Mahoning Ave., at 3:05 a.m. Monday spotted two men walking through the lot. One had a black ski mask over his face and the other had a hood of a sweatshirt over his head.

The two approached the golf cart and one sat in the driver’s seat, but then began walking through the parking lot again. When approached by an officer, El-Makdah told police “he did not want to steal the golf cart, he only wanted to ‘drive it around the parking lot,’” the report said.

El-Makdah also had an active warrant for failure to appear through Niles Municipal Court.
