YOUNGSTOWN SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES

Three candidates will be on the ballot and four write-in candi- dates also are running for four city school board seats. An * denotes the incumbent.

RICK ALLI (write-in)

Age: 61.

Address: 426 Fairgreen Ave.

Employment: Retired Youngstown police detective.

Education: Attended Denison University and Youngstown State University, South High School graduate.

Family: Four children.

Priority: The problems did not sprout up overnight, they have been around for awhile. This is a wake-up call to organize and learn to take care of our own. Input and teamwork from Youngstown is the solution. My priority is to communicate and inform and help bring back the family/school relationship.

TINA CVETKOVICH (write-in)

Age: 46.

Address: 29 S. Maryland Ave.

Education: YSU, bachelor’s degree in social work, East High School graduate.

Family: Husband, George; and three children.

Priority: Funding opportunities for our school system, increase programming opportunities for the children in the district to aid them in discovering themselves and what they wish to become as adults. Utilization of a more restorative justice approach within the classroom and school district as a whole.

DARIO HUNTER (write-in)

Education: Bachelor of laws, University of Windsor, Canada; juris doctorate, University of Detroit Mercy ; master of Laws, Wayne State University, and bachelor’s in history from Princeton University.

Priority: My chief priority is to work towards improving the academic performance of the district. As a teacher, one of the primary ways I help struggling students is by giving more of my time to help them understand the material. I’d like to see the amount of classroom hours in each school day increase as well as an extension of the school year. BRENDA KIMBLE *

Priority: To assure a quality public education for Youngstown City School District students by supporting education staff through forums to promote best practices for education. Continue to develop Public Education Works, a mentorship and students support program. Support and promote effective community engagement within the district. Continue to support successful education programs.

MICHAEL MURPHY *

Age: 60.

Employment: Youngstown City Water Department.

Education: Cardinal Mooney High School graduate.

Family: Wife, Lorraine, and a daughter.

Priority: If elected, I will work to keep the schools moving toward an excellent status. I will help to keep the finances stable and help to keep the schools run by the board of education.

Education: Second year at YSU and Cardinal Mooney High School graduate.

Priority: Focus efforts on students learning and general well-being, accountability to the community, cooperative working relations with students, parents, administration, faculty and the community; teaching and learning, improving the environment that encourages and inspires teaching and learning.
