Police: 2 students planned attack

FREDRICKSBURG, Va.

Two male students in Virginia have been arrested and accused of plotting an attack at their high school, law-enforcement officials said Saturday.

The teens were planning to call in a bomb threat at Riverbend High School in Fredericksburg, which they attend, and then shoot at students and staff as they evacuated the building, said Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s office. The students, age 15 and 17, are charged with conspiracy to commit murder and are being held without bond at a juvenile-detention center, officials said.

Thousands of guns confiscated in SC

PAGELAND, S.C.

Authorities say they have seized thousands of guns from a house and warehouse in South Carolina.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks tells WBTV that deputies seized more than 7,000 guns from the property near Pageland, and that he believes the vast majority were stolen. The guns filled up a tractor-trailer.

Authorities say four-wheel vehicles, chain saws and other items found on the property also were believed stolen.

The weapons were discovered Friday when authorities brought a subpoena to the house. Authorities say a man living there had been arrested previously on drug charges in North Carolina and faces charges related to stolen property.

Kerry: Israel, Jordan OK video monitoring

JERUSALEM

Looking to reduce tensions at a Jerusalem holy site that set off weeks of Mideast violence, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry announced Saturday that Israel and Jordan had agreed on steps, including round-the-clock video monitoring, to bring an end to the unrest.

But the announcement contained few details on how the monitoring system would work, and it was not immediately clear whether it would be enough to calm the unrest that has raised fears that the region is on the brink of a new round of heavy fighting.

Late Saturday, Israel said it welcomed “increased coordination” with the Jordanians. There was no immediate Palestinian reaction.

Teen gets clock back

IRVING, Texas

A 14-year-old Muslim boy arrested after a homemade clock he took to his Dallas-area school was mistaken for a possible bomb has gotten the item back as he and his family prepare to move to the Middle East.

Irving police said Reggie London, an attorney for Ahmed Mohamed, picked up the clock Friday. Police say the teen’s family was told Sept. 18 that the clock was ready for retrieval. Ahmed tweeted Friday: “GOT MY CLOCK BACK FINALLY!!”

Ahmed took the clock to his high school to show a teacher Sept. 14, but another teacher thought it could be a bomb. Police ultimately chose not to charge Ahmed with having a hoax bomb.

Trump jabs Bush in home state Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump mocked former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in his own state Saturday, saying recent campaign cuts show he’s not ready to be president.

“Here’s a guy who wants to run our country, and he can’t even run his own campaign. And you know what? He’s cutting back big,” Trump told a raucous crowd of thousands gathered along the riverfront of one of Florida’s most-conservative cities.

The comment came the day after the Bush campaign said it was cutting payroll by 40 percent by trimming staff and requiring an across-the-board pay cut for those remaining.
