Poland Lions Club is sponsoring a Blanket of Kindness drive from Nov. 1 through 24. The group is collecting new and gently used washable blankets and comforters in all sizes for children and families in need.

Donation drop-off sites in Poland include Poland United Methodist Church, Home Savings and Loan, Town and Country Cleaners, First National Bank and Wittenauer’s Cafe. Mail monetary donations to Poland Lions Blanket Drive, P.O. Box 5424, Poland, OH 44514.

Sauce and Songs scheduled Nov. 1

YOUNGSTOWN

St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., will host its monthly Sauce and Song program Nov. 1 at the church.

The event begins with a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Carryouts are available; containers will be provided.

Proceeds will benefit the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley.

A concert from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. will feature the Youngstown State University Jazz Quartet performing a variety of jazz selections. Students performing are Siera McCorvey, vocal performance major; Antonie Jackson, trumpet performance major; Moriah Placer, graduate student at Cleveland State University on percussion; and Kris Harper on keyboard.

Radio Club plans HAM Radio license course

The Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club will offer a HAM Radio general license course from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays starting Nov. 4 at ITT Tech, 1030 N. Meridian Road. There will be five weeks of classes and an exam on Dec. 16.

Wine taste and pasta dinner set for Nov. 21

The President Charity Foundation of the Knights of Columbus will sponsor a wine taste and pasta dinner Nov. 21 in the great hall at St. Nicholas Church, 764 5th St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event begins at 7.

Proceeds benefit Elizabeth Damelio, who was born with congenital heart defects and scoliosis. She is a graduate of St. Rose School and a freshmen at Ursuline High School. Cost is $30 per ticket or $50 per couple. There will be a basket auction, disc jockey and dancing.

YSU Women Retirees offer scholarship

YOUNGSTOWN

The Women Retirees of the Youngstown State University scholarship committee are accepting applications through March 1.

The scholarship is awarded to a full-time junior female student who maintains a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must be a U.S. citizen and be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.

Application forms may be printed from the website or obtained from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships on the second floor of Meshel Hall at YSU.
