ALTERNATIVE

Boardman: Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St., will host Halloween events. There will be a pumpkin-decorating contest for mall businesses and mall patrons are invited to vote for their favorite from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; prizes will be awarded for most creative, funniest and “most-like-their-store merchandise” pumpkins. There also will be a mallwide trick-or-treat event for children 12 and younger from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be a live juggler and scare-free crafts.

Columbiana: Columbiana Nazarene Church, 330 N. Elm St., will have a trunk-or-treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Call 330-482-3358 for information.

New Waterford: East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 state Route 558, will have a trunk-or-treat event from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday .

Niles: Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, will host “Pumpkinville Adventures,” a scare-free Halloween event for young children from noon to 6 p.m. today, 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday in the mall’s center court. There will be entertainment, costume characters and visual displays. Cost is $6 per ticket, which will admit one child and one accompanying adult. Tickets are available at the Captain McFinn and Friends store. Portion of ticket sales will benefit local children’s charities.

Niles: The Niles Halloween parade is 1 p.m. today in the city’s downtown.

Niles: New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., will have a trunk-or-treat event today. It will begin immediately after the close of the Niles Halloween parade and continue to 4 p.m.

Niles: First United Methodist Church, 608 N. Crandon Ave., will have a trunk-or-treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. today. There will be games, food and prizes for best costume.

Poland: Heritage Presbyterian Church, 1951 Mathews Road, will have a trunk-or-treat event from 5:40 to 6:30 p.m. today. There will be treats, pumpkin decorating, games, doughnuts and cider. Free. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside the church.

Warren: Warren’s Halloween parade will take place at noon today. For information on the parade, call 330-841-2584.

Youngstown: A Safe Halloween Night event, sponsored by the Black Knights Police Association, Youngstown Department of Parks and Recreation and the Buckeye Health Plan, will take place at 5 to 8 p.m. at the indoor pavilion at Wick Park. Refreshments, entertainment and games for children 12 and under will be offered. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and most-original costume. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Youngstown: A safe Halloween harvest night sponsored by the Market Street Merchants Area Association and Youngstown Vicinity Association of Merchants Initiative will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nineteen Market Street merchants, three Glenwood Avenue and 10 East Midlothian Boulevard businesses will participate. A removal of masks and courtesies upon entering the businesses are requested and would be appreciated.
