YOUNGSTOWN

Local churches will have giveaways today. They include:

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., Youngstown, will have a food giveaway, including produce, from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring identification and containers.

Victory Lutheran Church, 2110 Glenwood Ave., will have a food giveaway from 9 to 11 a.m. Must have two forms of identification, including present address with photo. It is for residents of ZIP code areas 44502, 44507 and 44511.

Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown, will have a food distribution from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for ZIP codes 44509, 44511 and 44515. Bring identification.

Law Day at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University will have its annual Law Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the Presidential Suite of Kilcawley Center. Law-school admission representatives from various law schools will be available to meet with students. Some of the law schools in attendance will be the University of Akron, the Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve, Capital University and Duquesne University.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Politics and International Relations/Rigelhaupt Pre-Law Center at YSU. For information, call the department office at 330-941-3436.

Burglary charge

YOUNGSTOWN

A city man is in the Mahoning County jail on $50,000 bond after police said he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, choked her and threatened her.

Curtis Warren, 24, was arraigned in municipal court on a charge of aggravated burglary. Reports said Warren was arrested after police were called to an apartment in the 3100 block of Leo Avenue.

Reports said after Warren got inside the apartment, he choked and kicked the victim, his ex-girlfriend, threw bleach on the walls, clothes and furniture then broke a mirror. The victim ran outside and into another building, where reports said Warren followed her inside and challenged another person to a fight on Meridian Road before running away. Officers arrested Warren after they spotted him walking on the sidewalk.

Mentors sought

YOUNGSTOWN

Warriors Inc., 2733 Market St., is seeking adult mentors, age 21 and older, willing to commit one hour a week to mentor youths 12 and older.

Warriors will provide two training sessions at two hours each in November. They intend to provide a supportive environment by providing activities, monthly mentor-mentee group activities and other mentor mixers. The program will begin in January. Collecting for needy

CORTLAND

The Bazetta Township Police Department and Bazetta Township Fire Department will collect nonperishable food items, personal-care products and cash for needy families of the Bazetta-Cortland area from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday at Walmart, 2016 Millennium Blvd.
