Man denies kidnapping charge

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who was arrested early Wednesday on charges he kidnapped a woman and beat her denied the charges Thursday.

Jason Carter, 36, of Youngstown, said he did not beat the woman. But when asked what happened, he said he could not talk about that.

Asked why someone would accuse him of such a crime, he said he could not talk about that either.

Carter was able to post $50,000 bond Wednesday evening, which was set in municipal court after he was arraigned on charges of kidnapping and domestic violence.

Police arrested Carter at a home in the 800 block of Canfield Road about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Carter had beaten a woman who was the mother of his children at a home on Tracy Lane, forced her into a car, beat her there, then drove her to McKelvey Lake and beat her again before dropping her off on Tracy Lane.

At his arraignment, a woman in the courtroom denied that Carter had kidnapped her, but Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno read a portion of a statement that the woman made to police saying that Carter grabbed her around the throat in front of her children and forced her to go with him.
