ALLIANCES

Ohio Cultural Alliance will have a luncheon at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Al Bright, a Youngstown State University professor emeritus, will address the theme “Going Places with the Ohio Cultural Alliance: Venice.” A catered meal will be served, and cultural enrichment will be provided by pianist Nathan Stephens. ASSOCIATIONS

Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet Nov. 11 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St., Boardman. Social hour will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch follows at 11:45. Susan Harris will preside. The program will include a performance of “Taps” by Jim Ramsey, veterans recognition by Sgt. Mike Kubitza and a presentation on teacher volunteer programs by Laura Weyme of the United Way. Joyce Mistovich will present scholarships to YSU School of Education students. June Logan will conduct an election of officers. Community service will be donations to the VA clinic; socks, underwear, sweatpants and shirts are needed. All area educators are invited. Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will have a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Olive Garden in Boardman. A speaker from the Boardman Library will discuss library events and gather feedback about library programs. Canfield Republican Women’s Club will meet for lunch at noon Nov. 4 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Alzheimer Network Family Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Care Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. R-Weigh Weight Support Groups will meet on Mondays at First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave., Salem. Afternoon weigh-in is from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and the meeting will follow at 1:45. Evening weigh-ins are from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:15. The first meeting is free. Guests are welcome. The club is an all-volunteer nonprofit group of women helping women to lose weight. All money paid in goes back to the members in incentives to lose weight.
