US Sen. Portman laments Obama veto of defense bill with funds for YARS

YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican from the Cincinnati area, said he was “extremely disappointed” that President Barack Obama vetoed the National Defense Authorization Act today that authorized $9.4 million in funding for an upgrade to the indoor firing range facility at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna.

“YARS has become a model for other Air Reserve stations throughout the country, but to maintain this level of high performance, we must upgrade this firing range facility,” he said. “The president’s veto of an overwhelmingly bipartisan bill is disappointing and I plan to work with my colleagues on both sides of aisle to override his veto.”

Earlier this month, the Senate voted 70-27 in support of the defense act.
