The arrest of a man Wednesday morning on charges he beat a woman in an SUV and at McKelvey Lake is his third within three weeks.

Jason Carter, 36, was arraigned on charges of kidnapping and domestic violence in Youngstown Municipal Court before Magistrate Eugene Fehr, who set Carter’s bond at $50,000.

As Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno was reading the charges, a woman in the courtroom interrupted and said: “Excuse me, I was not kidnapped.”

Moliterno then read a statement the woman gave to police, where she said in the statement Carter choked her, punched her in front of her children and forced her to leave with him.

Municipal court records show Carter was arrested Oct. 3 on misdemeanor drug charges and was able to post bond; he was arrested again Oct. 13 on a felony possession of drug charge and was again able to post $10,000 bond.

Then there was the arrest early Wednesday. Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of Tracy Lane about 12:20 a.m., where witnesses told them Carter had tried to force his way inside a home.

A woman in the home, who is the mother of Carter’s child, went out to talk to him, but instead Carter grabbed her by the throat, took her to an SUV and began beating her.

Reports said when a woman asked if the victim was all right, Carter replied she would not be if the witness did not mind her business.

Carter then drove to Mc-Kelvey Lake because reports said he told the victim no one would bother him there, and he beat her there before bringing her back to Tracy Lane.

Police used a cellphone to track the SUV to a driveway in the 800 block of Canfield Road, where Carter was arrested.

In 2011, Carter was found guilty in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court of a being a felon in possession of a firearm charge and carrying a concealed weapon and sentenced to two years in prison, plus three years’ probation. It was unclear from court records when his prison sentence expired.
