Girl Scouts present Women of Distinction and Advancing Women Awards

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) presented the 2015 Women of Distinction and Advancing Women Awards at a fundraising luncheon Sept. 25 at The Union Club of Cleveland.

New this year, three exceptional Girl Scouts were chosen to receive the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Award.

Chairwoman was Jackie Adams, a 2014 Women of Distinction recipient and GSNEO board member.

Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship were presented to Valley residents:

Monica Kotyuk of Warren, a lifetime member of Girl Scouts who earned Marian Medal, Sprit Alive Medal and Girl Scout Gold Award. For her Gold Award project, she created a functional art piece, designed to help children through occupational therapy activities at Children’s Rehabilitation Center of Warren. She is a nursing major at Ohio State University.

Anna McCue of Warren is attending Loyola University of Chicago as an international studies major. She has earned all three of Girl Scouting’s highest awards, including the Girl Scout Gold Award. Her Gold Award project was inspired by a service trip to Kenya through “Me to We” in 2013. While there, Anna recognized the global need for clean water in undeveloped countries and across the world. She held a “Water Walk” for her school and the community, which included informational sessions on global water statistics.

The annual event honors outstanding women, selected for their remarkable achievements as business, community, academic and civic leaders.Women of Distinction Awards presented to women from the Cleveland-Akron area.

The 2015 Advancing Women Award was presented to NASA Glenn Research Center for implementing programs and policies designed to encourage mentoring relationships, advancement, leadership qualities and sponsorship to help women to succeed in the workplace.
