Ranger probing fatal dog attack at Mosquito
CORTLAND
A state park ranger is investigating the death of a dog attacked Sunday by another dog at Mosquito Lake State Park dog park.
Halley Priddy, 20, of Niles, said her dog, Cole, a 6-month-old beagle-bulldog mix weighing 38 pounds, died at her veterinarian’s office Monday after undergoing two surgeries to repair injuries to its jaw. Priddy said she and her boyfriend had been at the park while Cole was playing in the section for large dogs. A mixed-breed dog lunged at Cole.
Priddy said an exam after the dog died indicated that Cole’s stomach and spleen were “pushed into the chest cavity” by the attack.
Bazetta police contacted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources office at the park, which has jurisdiction. Eric Heis, ODNR spokesman, said ODNR is identifying and interviewing the parties involved.

Victim-witness division gets funding increase
WARREN
Funding to continue and expand the victim-witness division of the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office has been awarded.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has awarded $141,949 for next year, an increase of $50,583, allowing the prosecutor’s office to promote a part-time employee to a full-time position left vacant with the retirement of longtime courtroom advocate Miriam Fife, as well as to update technical equipment and pay for travel and training. The unit will have three full-time workers covering the adult and juvenile courts. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has continuously funded the victim/witness program since 1986.
Intruder gets 3 years
WARREN
Christopher G. Perkins, 25, of Charles Street Southeast, was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday for entering a woman’s house on Iddings Avenue Southeast on May 24 and stealing her purse while threatening her with a knife.
He pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to aggravated burglary.
Police say Perkins fled on foot from the home to the Warren bike path near South Street, where a citizen pointed a police officer to where Perkins had gone. The officer found Perkins in a backyard on Charles and arrested him a short time later.
Driver robbed at gunpoint after delivery
WARREN
A pizza-delivery man was robbed at gunpoint at 8:05 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of Jackson Street Southwest.
The driver said a man walked toward the street from a house from which the pizza had been ordered. The driver pulled into the driveway and got out, but the man said he needed to get money from the side door of the house, so the driver walked with the suspect toward the house.
But the man, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt pulled up around his face, pulled a gun from his pants and ordered the driver to give him all his money. The driver complied and was allowed to get back in his car and drive away.
