BOYS GOLF

Boardman second in district to clinch Division I state berth

HINCKLEY

The Boardman boys golf team clinched a trip to the state tournament in Columbus on Oct. 23-24 by finishing second in the Division I district tournament at Pine Hills Golf Club on Wednesday. The Spartans shot a team score of 302, falling just short of first place Medina (301). Senior Ethan Thomas led the Spartans with a 72, while sophomores Brian Terlesky and Cade Kreps shot a 78 and 79, respectively. Freshman Cole Christman logged a 79 and sophomore Bobby Jonda shot an 85. Boardman, which is coached by Ron Moschella, will travel to Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in next weekend’s state tournament.

VOLLEYBALL

Southington 25-25-25, Warren JFK 12-17-13

WARREN

Southington swept the Eagles in three sets. Leading the way for JFK was Adrianna Placanica with 31 digs, while Alea Fordeley notched three kills and MacKayla Kroll had three blocks.

Windham 25-25-25, Bloomfield 20-19-17

BLOOMFIELD

Brittany Knight paced Windham with 15 kills, while Sam Dean notched 22 assists and Brianna Workman had five aces. For Bloomfield, Ashley Fenstermaker had six kills and two aces. JV: Bloomfield, 2-0.

Liberty 17-25-23-25-15, Brookfield 25-22-25-21-10

BROOKFIELD

Ali Acier led Liberty with 18 digs and nine kills, while Maleah Schiavone recorded a team-high 10 kills and Lana Adi 26 assists. Bailey Drapola and Kenzie Drapola paced Brookfield with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Katie Bender had 33 assists for the Warriors and Ashley Hackett had four aces.

Poland 25-25-25, Niles 13-7-9

POLAND

Jill Penman had a triple-double of 10 blocks, 10 points and 10 digs to go with four kills and two aces as Poland took out Niles in three straight games. Logan Kountz had seven kills, seven points and five aces while Cordray Sundstrom also had seven kills and seven points with a block and an ace for the Bulldogs. For Niles, Taylor Ziegler had five kills, three points and two aces. Emma Dellinger had four kills and eight digs and Katie Julian added 10 assists.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hubbard 7, Struthers 0

HUBBARD

Seven different Eagles players found net as Hubbard blew out Struthers. The goal scorers were Lily Sinopoli, Taylor Mesmer, Erin Luonuansuu, Samantha Mesmer, Marissa Grande, Emma Wukelich and Taylor Chuey. Marissa Grande, Leslie Summers, Sydney Newell and Sinopoli each had one assist.

Lakeview 2, Champion 0

CORTLAND

Rachel Braunegg and Sam Yanci each had a goal as Lakeview (13-3) downed Champion (8-2-5). Reagan Rosenberger assisted both goals and Miranda Meffe made four saves. Carissa Hurst had 10 saves for Champion. JV: Champion 2, Lakeview 0

AUSTINTOWN

Kyle Cyphert paced the Falcons (10-3-2) with three goals, while Gavin Emrich also added a goal and Cyphert and Blake Baker each notched assists. JV: Fitch, 3-0.

Lordstown 11, Mathews 0

MATHEWS

Lordstown goalie Collin Himes had an easy night as his team conceded no shots in a blowout win against Mathews. Chris Eakins netted four goals for the Red Devils (12-3-1). Michon Peterson had a hat trick and two assists and David Agudo had two goals and an assist. Garrett Behner and Mike Zelle each had a goal, while Behner had two assists. Ethan Radtka and Bruce Pyles each had two assists. Mike Rendziniak and Garrett Smith each had an assist. Mathews goalies Clay O’Dell and Lucas Swerdon made 17 and 5 saves, respectively.
