Boy, 11, injured during parade

MERCER, PA.

A Mercer boy was seriously injured Wednesday night during the town’s homecoming parade on West Butler Street.

According to Vindicator broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, 11-year-old Nicholas King slipped off a float he was riding with his dad, who is the junior high football coach, and was run over.

The fifth-grader at Mercer Elementary School was life-flighted to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Information on his condition was unavailable Wednesday night, WFMJ reported.

In addition, another student was injured in a separate occurrence in the parade, WFMJ said. Another boy slipped off a different float, which ran over the boy’s leg.

That boy was taken to UPMC in Farrell with minor injuries, the TV station reported..
