Quilt Group to host Shop Owners Night

CANFIELD

That Quilt Group I Belong To will host a Shop Owners Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Park, 320 Oak St.

Participating shops will sell fabrics, tools, yarn, bags and other craft items. They include: Just Quilt It, Warren; Village Quilts, Canfield; The Gallery of Fabric, Mercer, Pa.; With Needle In Hand, Boardman; and Knit Wits Yarns Shop, Salem. Sara Dysert, a Thirty-One representative, will also sell products.

The Quilt Group meets at Fair Park on the third Tuesday of each month; the event will be the group’s October meeting. It is open to all quilters in the Mahoning Valley at all skill levels. For membership information, contact president Helen Lewis at HMLrutgers@icloud.com or call 330-286-3966.

Boy Scout Troop 119 plans pasta dinner

NEW SPRINGFIELD

Boy Scout Troop 119 will host its seventh annual pasta dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road.

Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and under. There will be basket and silent auctions. The meal will include pasta, meatballs, bread and butter, fresh fruit, salad, drink, and Dutch oven desserts.

Historical Society sets Sunday trolley tour

Salem Historical Society will offer an Underground Railroad tour on the Quakertown Trolley, departing 1:15 p.m. Sunday from the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave.

A docent dressed as a Salem Quaker will explore the historical plight of slaves, focusing on the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War. Photo slides of historical homes, the Underground Railroad hiding places, and notable abolitionists will be displayed. The tour is approximately 75 minutes. Cost is $15 per person, and 15 guests are necessary to conduct the tour.

Events at Canfield UMC are in 75th year

Every autumn since 1940, Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., has sponsored two events to support groups within the church and the community at large. This year marks the 75th anniversary of both the Fall Festival and Bazaar and turkey dinner.

The Fall Festival and Bazaar is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be gifts and decorations, books, CDs and baked goods along with a silent auction. A cafeteria-style lunch will be available. For children 4 to 10, there will be carnival games, and childcare will be available for children 2 to 3.

The annual turkey dinner is scheduled Nov. 2. Dining room sittings are at 4:30 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Space is limited at each sitting. Tickets are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at the church office. A drive-thru available from 4:30 p.m. and cost is $12. Dine-in meal is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 10 years and younger.
