A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Oct. 11
Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. 224 led to a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against 38-year-old Christine R. Pease of West Miller Street, New Castle, Pa.
BOARDMAN
Oct. 8
Arrest: A traffic stop near Cook and Evans avenues resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Blaine A. Haggie II of South Avenue, Boardman, on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, obstructing official business and having a fictitious vehicle registration. Haggie, who police said provided a false name and date of birth, also had three over-the-counter pills with no prescription, they alleged.
Domestic violence: Patricia L. Tarver, 18, of South Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her sister alleged that during an argument between family members, Tarver had punched her.
Theft: A man reportedly stole two DVDs from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Theft: A laptop computer was removed from a vehicle in the 8400 block of Ivy Hill Drive.
Identity theft: A Brookfield Avenue woman found four fraudulent charges to her debit card that totaled $541.
Aggravated menacing: A Paxton Road woman alleged a neighbor had threatened to stab the accuser and her dog.
Criminal mischief: A man in the 700 block of Teakwood Drive reported the latest in a series of incidents since August in which eggs were tossed at his residence.
Fraud: A Lockwood Boulevard woman discovered someone without permission had made $120 worth of transactions with her credit card.
Theft: Two women reportedly stole one pair each of jeans and floral pants from The Children’s Place in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Tracey L. Shields, 41, of Echodell Drive, East Liverpool, faced charges of theft, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after about $79 worth of merchandise, including a cellphone, was stolen from Walmart. Shields also fought with an officer who tried to detain her, then refused to provide her personal information, a report showed.
Drugs: Officers on Market Street pulled over and charged David L. Algaier of Goshen Road, Salem, with drug abuse (heroin) as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after saying three spoons, including one with suspected heroin, and a needle were found. The 31-year-old Algaier also was wanted on a Sebring warrant charging menacing.
Oct. 9
Arrest: Police responded to someone in distress at a Market Street motel, where they charged 31-year-old Sergio R. Rivera of East Florida Avenue, Youngstown, with assault, possession of drug-abuse instruments, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. A Girard woman alleged Rivera, who authorities said led them on a foot chase, had punched, pushed and choked her. Also, a hypodermic needle was found, a report stated.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Buckeye Wireless, 4170 Market St., and took an undisclosed sum of money.
Harassment: A Southern Boulevard man said he’s received a series of threatening cellphone calls.
Theft: An Afton Avenue man found out someone had used his license-plate number while at a Maryland toll booth.
Theft: A $30 bicycle was taken from a front yard in the 100 block of Clifton Drive.
Misuse of a credit card: A Maple Avenue man discovered someone in New York had made several unauthorized transactions, which drained his checking account of $1,021.
Theft: A woman saw that a wallet and $120 had been removed from a vehicle at her Traymore Drive home.
False alarms: Two dispatchers with the Boardman Police Department each reported someone had called 911 to report a separate township Taco Bell fast-food restaurant was being robbed. Both claims turned out to be unfounded, a report showed.
Arrest: Officers answered a call about an unresponsive person in a vehicle at Boardman Park, where they took into custody Carl V. Foote, 63, of Maple Drive, Boardman, after saying he admitted being intoxicated and that he refused to submit to standard sobriety tests. Foote’s blood-alcohol count was 0.212, nearly three times Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08, a report said.
Felonious assault: Authorities arrested 25-year-old Lorenzo J. Hilton Jr. at his South Schenley Avenue apartment on a warrant charging felonious assault and domestic violence related to a Sept. 13 incident in which a woman alleged the Boardman man had repeatedly punched her head, tossed a shoe at the accuser, slapped her several times and shoved her against a door, injuring her arms and leg.
Criminal damaging: A rock was used to do $500 in damage to a vehicle’s windshield in the 70 block of Lemans Drive.
Fraud: After having eaten at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant and while reviewing her bank statement online, an East Palestine woman discovered an additional $76 unauthorized charge had been made to her credit card.
Identity theft: A township woman learned that someone had used her personal information to open a credit-card account.
Assault/criminal damaging: A Warren woman in the 700 block of Boardman-Poland Road noticed someone had used a key to damage her car’s finish. Also, a friend of hers reported having been struck in the chest, apparently during a dispute about a parking space.
Domestic violence: Jose L. Rivera, 30, of South Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, was charged after his girlfriend alleged Rivera had grabbed her neck and choked her during an argument.
Oct. 10
Theft: A woman reportedly fled in a Dodge sport utility vehicle after having stolen a Halloween decoration from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.
Theft: A man reportedly stole 12 energy drinks and two coffee containers from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.
Aggravated menacing: A worker for a South Avenue long-term care center told officers a resident threatened her, evidently after becoming unhappy about his care.
Thefts: Several residents in the 30 and 50 blocks of Shields Road reported items missing from their vehicles.
Theft: Police charged 42-year-old Brian J. Hebb with theft after alleging Hebb, of Houston Avenue, East Liverpool, had stolen two pairs of women’s shoes, a shirt and a pair of jeans from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A Lowellville boy, 13, was accused of stealing $112 worth of cologne from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.
Oct. 11
Aggravated menacing: An Appleridge Drive man said he’s received multiple calls and text messages, including from someone who had threatened to shoot up his residence and vehicle.
Misuse of a credit card: A Salem woman found out her credit card had been used without consent to make five such charges at three Boardman locations.
Theft: A Struthers woman reported a car key and a remote-control device stolen while in the 4500 block of South Avenue.
Felonious assault: A Glen Park Road man alleged a family member attempted to strike him with her vehicle after an argument.
Theft: A woman in the 4200 block of South Avenue discovered a 12-speed bicycle had been stolen from her driveway.
Misuse of a credit card: A Youngstown woman reported her stolen credit card had been used to make unauthorized charges at two Boardman-Poland Road department stores and one township gas station.
Oct. 12
Assault: A New Castle, Pa., woman told police a man grabbed and struck her as the victim approached her car at a Boardman-Canfield Road eatery.
Misuse of a credit card: A Leetonia man found out his food-stamp card had been used to make a $79 fraudulent purchase at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Theft: A man in the 6400 block of Southern Boulevard saw that a wallet was missing from his work van.
Theft: The owner of Waterworks Inc., a machine shop at 5405 Market St., reported three stainless-steel display bases had been stolen from a warehouse, for a $3,000 loss.
Burglary: While responding to a fight, officers charged 32-year-old Joel F. Lopez Jr. of East Broadway Avenue, Girard, with aggravated burglary and domestic violence after his former girlfriend alleged an intoxicated Lopez also had broken into her Lemans Drive apartment.
Theft by deception: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed to township police 36-year-old Angela M. Cambert of Oldtown-McDonald Road, Mineral Ridge, who was wanted on a misdemeanor theft-by-deception charge. Last February, a woman reported having given a $30 deposit to Cambert, who lived on Shadyside Drive at the time, for a used bed, but that Cambert neither gave her the item nor her money back.
Theft: A man reported a bag containing clothing was stolen from his locker at a Boardman-Canfield Road fitness center.
Theft/impersonation: A Rockdale Avenue woman discovered a $650 iPhone missing from her vehicle, and her boyfriend told authorities someone called claiming to be a detective from the Akron Police Department, apparently in an effort to obtain personal information from them.
Theft: Authorities charged 22-year-old Christian A.J. Fry of Edinburg, Pa., and 34-year-old Stacey M. Flynn of Pulaski, Pa., with stealing $151 worth of merchandise from Macy’s.
Theft: Police took custody of Vincent M. Marks, 23, who was wanted on a theft charge. Marks, of Spring Meadow Circle, Austintown, was accused of stealing an Ohio State Buckeyes T-shirt on Sept. 3 from Touchdown Gifts and More in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A woman reportedly brought a $30 pair of pants to Walmart as part of a fraudulent return.
Oct. 13
Weapon: Police investigated two suspicious cars in the 500 block of Boardman-Poland Road, then charged Wade J. Campbell, 36, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon. Campbell had a loaded 12-gauge shotgun under a blanket in his truck, authorities said.
