Will Youngstown Plan stay or go?
COLUMBUS
A decision on the Youngstown school board’s request for a preliminary injunction to stop the Youngstown Plan from taking effect could come today. The plan, which would appoint a chief executive officer to manage and run the Youngstown schools, is set to kick in Wednesday with dissolution of the sitting academic distress commission.
Attorneys for the school board and the state argued two weeks ago before Judge Jenifer French of Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
A court spokesman said the ruling had not been released this morning and did not indicate a time for its release. he did, however, acknowledge the immediacy of the matter.
The plan, House Bill 70, approved by both state houses, establishes a new Academic Distress Commission that hires a CEO to “exercise complete operational, managerial and instructional control of the district.”
