Single-vehicle accident

JOHNSTON

Silas Titchnell Jr., 61, of Kinsman, died at the scene in a single-vehicle accident on state Route 88, about a half mile east of state Route 193, this morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Titchnell was westbound on Route 88 in a 2007 Nissan XTerra at 11:18 a.m. and traveled off the right side of the road, striking a ditch and a small bridge.

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.

Titchnell was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.

Suspected cocaine

WARREN

Clinton J. Limber, 31, of the 200 block of Monroe Street Northwest, was arrested Friday night on Monroe Street, suspected of possessing cocaine.

He is expected to be charged and arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court.

A patrolman said he saw Limber coming out of a known drug house on North Park Avenue and got out of his cruiser and asked Limber to come speak to him.

The officer asked Limber what he had clenched in his hand, and Limber opened his hand, showing a rock of crack cocaine.

Man arrested

WARREN

Stephen A. Watson, 48, of Erie, Pa., was arrested early Saturday after he was observed leaving what Warren police called a known drug house near the intersection of North Park Avenue and Monroe Street Northwest.

After observing the car leaving the house parking area without coming to a stop at the sidewalk, police made a traffic stop at North Park and East Market Street.

Watson was asked to step out of the car, and police found suspected crack cocaine on the driver’s seat, they said.

Charges will be filed in Warren Municipal Court today, police said.

Officer bit

WARREN

Raymont L. Hamilton, 41, of Ferndale Drive Southwest, was taken to the Trumbull County Jail on Sunday evening after police said he bit a police officer and put him in a headlock.

Hamilton released Officer Michael Altiere after a fellow officer used a stun gun.

Police were called to the Ferndale address for an argument between Harris and his wife.

Harris refused to comply with officers and appeared ready to punch Altiere, so the officer grabbed him and tried to handcuff him, but Harris bit the officer on the arm, police said.

Altiere used his stun gun on Harris, but it was unsuccessful, and Harris put Altiere in a headlock.

Charges will be filed today in Warren Municipal Court today, police said.

Sobriety checkpoint

BOARDMAN

A total of 384 vehicles went through a sobriety checkpoint Friday conducted by the Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle while Impaired Task Force and Ohio State Highway Patrol on Market Street in Boardman.

The checkpoint at Overhill Road yielded four OVI arrests, as well as numerous citations and issuances of summonses for other offenses.

One passenger who was sent to a diversion area fled on food and dropped a handgun, according to a release.

The suspect, later apprehended with the help of a police dog, will face charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business, drug possession, illegal possession of weapons, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Pumpkin Walk

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks will host the “Pumpkin Walk at Twilight” on Sunday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy live entertainment, refreshments and children’s activities for free.

More than 500 pumpkins carved into jack-o’-lanterns will line the Gardens’ paths.

The event runs until 8 p.m.

People can carve pumpkins for the display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The carving area is in the service building.

Groups of 10 or more should call ahead at 330-740-7116.

Suspected heroin

Tia R. Fisher, 39, of Pearl Street Southwest in Warren, was taken to the Trumbull County Jail on Friday night after police found suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia in her car during a traffic stop at the Pine Tree Plaza in Weathersfield Township.

An officer discovered her car had expired registration as it pulled out of the McKinley Motel and pulled into the plaza, police said.

When officers searched the car before it was towed, they found a syringe needle, two spoons with burnt marks on them and suspected heroin in a piece of folded paper.

She will be arraigned today in Niles Municipal Court.

Guns stolen

WARREN

Jason A. Welz, 28, of North Park Road and College Street in West Farmington, was arrested Friday night on four counts of receiving stolen property, accused of stealing four antique guns from a neighbor’s house on North Park Drive last Wednesday.

A detective with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office discovered the guns were at two area gun stores.

Five Guys robbed

HOWLAND

A man in his 20s with a black beard and wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt robbed Five Guys Burgers and Fries, 2393 Niles-Cortland Road, at 7:07 p.m. Sunday.

The man had his hand in his pocket as if he had a weapon and walked behind the store after demanding and getting money, police said.

Police believe he may have committed a similar robbery at a gas station in Warren, Howland police said on their Facebook page.

Man shot

WARREn

A man was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital after apparently being shot about 10:05 p.m. Sunday near the Lit’l Mac’s Food Store, 1763 Parkman Road Northwest.

Two people dropped off the victim at the hospital in a personal vehicle about 10 minutes after the shooting, according to Trumbull County 911.

Educational talk

YOUNGSTOWN

The next of the monthly educational talks presented by Meridian HealthCare and the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library system’s Poland branch. The event is free.

This month’s entry in the “Now You Know” series – which focuses on family, health and lifestyle topics – is titled “Adult Children of Alcoholics: Lives Altered by Other,” and will be presented by Jerry Carter, former executive director of Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic.
