Quaid, wife are held on fugitive charges

Quaid, wife are held on fugitive charges

ST. ALBANS, VT.

Actor Randy Quaid and his wife were ordered held on $500,000 bail each in Vermont on Monday on charges that they skipped out of the country five years ago after being charged with vandalism in California.

The Quaids were detained at the Canadian border Friday night while trying to re-enter the U.S. after Canadian officials granted Evi Quaid citizenship but denied Randy Quaid permanent residence and said he would be deported.

They’re wanted in Santa Barbara, Calif., to face felony charges filed in 2010 after they were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned.

Court papers said the Quaids damaged or destroyed furniture, a fireplace and a mirror in the guesthouse. They’re charged with occupying the property illegally and failure to appear for court dates. Evi Quaid also is charged with impeding Santa Barbara deputy sheriffs.

The Quaids had separate court appearances Monday.

Conan O’Brien headed to Armenia

NEW YORK

Late-night comic Conan O’Brien is hitting the road again – this time to Armenia.

He’ll be the first American talk-show host to do a show from Armenia, not that that was a particularly competitive achievement. TBS said Monday that the episode will air Nov. 10.

O’Brien said he’ll be joined by his longtime assistant Sona Movsesian, who is of Armenian descent.

Said O’Brien: “I think it’s every boss’ responsibility to take their assistant back to their ancestral land. That’s why I’m going to make sure my next assistant was born in a five-star resort in Tuscany.”
