ERIE, Pa.

A man accused of inflicting fatal head injuries on his infant daughter has pleaded guilty to a murder charge.

The Erie Times-News reports 27-year-old Wendell Mulkey entered the plea Monday to third-degree murder after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.

He also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the March 2014 death of the 2-month-old girl.

Mulkey faces up to 40 years in prison on the murder charge. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 10.

Prosecutors say the girl died of abusive head trauma and had 34 rib and leg bone fractures when she died.

The girl’s mother, 21-year-old Miranda Fay, pleaded guilty last week to charges she failed to seek medical help despite knowing of Mulkey’s abuse.
