UPDATE | Power restored to most customers in Youngstown area

YOUNGSTOWN — Power was restored to all but slightly more than 300 customers by 9 p.m., ending nearly 12 hours with as many 6,400 people without electricity.

The power outage occurred at 9:50 a.m. due to a problem with a Cornersburg substation, according to FirstEnergy officials. The affected areas included Austintown, Boardman, Youngstown and Canfield Township.

Multiple Ohio Edison crews and vehicles were at work at the substation as night fell.

The 560-apartment Brandywine Apartment complex was one many residences to lose power Monday.

Temporary stop signs were placed at the intersections of Canfield Road and Schenley Avenue and Canfield and Bears Den roads, where traffic lights were blacked out.

A diesel-fuel generator supplied electricity at the Inn at Christine Valley assisted-living facility on Schenley Avenue.
