UPDATE | Power remains out for thousands of Ohio Edison customers
YOUNGSTOWN — As night fell, Ohio Edison crews continued to work to restore power after a widespread power outage that began at 9:50 a.m. today
Multiple OE crews and vehicles continued to work at the Cornersburg substation as night fell.
The 560-apartment Brandywine Apartment complex was without power.
Temporary stop signs were placed at the intersections of Canfield Road and Schenley Avenue and Canfield and Bears Den roads, where traffic lights were blacked out.
A diesel-fuel generator supplied electricity at the Inn at Christine Valley assisted-living facility on Schenley. The area of outage extends from the city’s Cornersburg area to the area of Midlothian Boulevard, west of Mill Creek Park on the Youngstown-Boardman boundary. At one time, 6,400 customers were without power.
Some Dover Road homeowners were using their electric generators, which droned into the night.
According to FirstEnergy’s website, power should be restored by 8 or 8:30 p.m. depending on location.
