Piano duo to perform fundraiser

Staff report

EAST PALESTINE

Local piano duo Carson and Jarred will perform at a fundraiser to support the music programs in the East Palestine Schools at 3 p.m. Nov. 8 in the East Palestine High School Auditorium.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from band parents and students for $12. Tickets also will be available at the door for $15 per person. Proceeds from the show will be used to support the activities of the 200 East Palestine band students in fifth through 12 grades, including the high-school band’s spring trip to perform at Walt Disney World.

Carson Weingart and Jarred Walker are both 2010 graduates of West Branch High School. The classically trained pianists have been performing together since they were in middle school.

Both were students of Joyce Gorby in the University of Mount Union’s Preparatory Division, and both continued their musical studies in college. For the past three years, Carson and Jarred have performed concerts throughout the local area.

Last December, their holiday show, “A Celebration with Carson and Jarred” for the Alliance Concert Association, drew an audience of more than 800 to the Alliance High School Auditorium.

The music for Carson and Jarred is arranged in the style of the legendary piano duo Ferrante and Teicher, who had countless hits in the 1970s and 1980s.

The program highlights music from movies and Broadway musicals, arranged and performed for two grand pianos, including music from The Sound of Music, George Gershwin, Liberace, George M. Cohan and other favorites.

The duo promises comedy, surprises and a program for audience members of all ages. Several senior band members will join the duo for a special finale.

In addition to the performance, Weingart and Walker will conduct an outreach workshop with East Palestine instrumental music students and will conduct a master class and discuss studying music at the college level. Information about the program is available at www.carsonjarred.com.
