Roads

Two road levies, for five years, introduced in 1976 and 1981, are combined at 2.5 mills. Those are valued, or assessed, at 1.0 mills and bring in $1,150,000. Owners of a $100,000 home pay about $31 a year now.

Those levies are being renewed, and two levies for 0.5 mill and 1 mill are being added on to bring the assessed value back up to 2.5 mills. If passed they would bring in an additional $850,000 for road work, or equal to eight miles of paving.

Owners of a $100,000 home would pay, if passed, $52 a year, up from $31 a year now.

The Austintown road department has 14 full-time employees.

A road department employee’s average salary is $52,000.

The township’s total budget for 2014 was approximately $18.86 million.

The road and bridge budget for 2014 was about $1.87 million ; $179,000 was transferred from the general fund to the department in 2014.

PARKS

A five-year, 0-8-mill park levy, first introduced in 1986 at 0.8 mill. Now valued at 0.45 mill brings in $285,000 annually. An addition of 0.4 mill, to bring the assessed value back to 0.8 mill, would bring in an additional $235,000 annually.

Owners of a $100,000 home currently pay $14 a year for the levy, and if passed would now begin to play $28 a year.

The Austintown park department has three full-time employees.
