Diesel: ‘Witch Hunter’ role was cathartic
NEW YORK
Vin Diesel still struggles over the loss of his friend and “Furious” co-star Paul Walker, so taking on the role of an immortal in the upcoming film “The Last Witch Hunter” helped him deal with his grief.
“Death was a huge theme last year,” Diesel told The Associated Press. “There was something therapeutic about playing this role after going through [Walker’s death].”
Diesel is no stranger to fantasy and sci-fi films, having starred in “The Chronicles of Riddick” series, “Babylon A.D.” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but this one was special for him.
“The idea that someone immortal could be so melancholy; 2014 was a tough year for me in some ways – a lot of ways,” Diesel said, choking up before continuing. “Playing a character that was masking his sorrow – his loss – was very appropriate for the time, because that’s what I was doing in real life with the post-‘Furious 7.’”
Walker died in late 2013 after the Porsche in which he was a passenger crashed and burned north of Los Angeles during a holiday break in the filming of “Furious 7,” the latest installment of “The Fast and Furious” franchise.
Lawyer: Second Cosby deposition to be sought
BOSTON
The lawyer for a woman who’s accused Bill Cosby of sexually abusing her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 says she’ll seek a second deposition of the comedian.
Lawyer Gloria Allred said Saturday that Cosby appeared for a deposition in Boston on Friday that lasted several hours. Allred represents Judy Huth, who claims Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him in the 1970s.
Allred says Huth will be deposed Thursday. She says a California judge will decide in December if the testimony will be made public.
Lawyers for the 78-year-old Cosby say Huth’s lawsuit is frivolous and that Huth’s former attorney attempted to extort Cosby.
Cosby also faces two other cases: a defamation lawsuit brought by three women who claim he abused them decades ago and a suit filed Tuesday by a model who alleges he drugged and sexually assaulted her.
LaBeouf charged with public intoxication
AUSTIN, Texas
Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested and charged with public intoxication after an incident in Austin, Texas.
The Austin Police Department said in a news release that LaBeouf was arrested at 7:33 p.m. Friday.
Jail records show he was booked into the Travis County Jail and released on his own recognizance. No attorney was listed on the record.
He was arrested in the city’s Sixth Street entertainment district, where the Austin City Limits music festival is taking place through today.
Police did not respond to a request from The Associated Press for additional details. His publicist did not immediately respond to a request to comment on the arrest.
The 29-year-old previously made headlines with bizarre escapades – including yelling from the audience during a Broadway show and wearing a paper bag on his head to a movie premiere – and has been treated for an alcohol problem.
