The Interdenominational Church Ushers Association School of Ushering for 2015-16 is conducting classes at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave.

The next class is from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 17.

The 32-hour course will run through April. The course is taught from the National United Church Ushers Association of America Inc. School of Ushering Manual. The cost of the book is $10 and can be purchased upon registration.

The ICUA is a nondenominational organization and all church ushers are welcome to participate. To attend, call 330-746-1217.

Mosque open house

YOUNGSTOWN

The Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown will have its annual open house from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Masjid Al-Khair, 1670 Homewood Ave.

Activities include ethnic foods, henna, jewelry and handicrafts sale.

Members of the Muslim community will conduct tours of the mosque and answer questions about Islam. The event is open to the public.

90th anniversary

STRUTHERS

Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at Mahoning Country Club.

Speaker will be the Rev. Julius Davis, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church of Girard. The church is also taking ads for a souvenir booklet.

Family and Friends

Shiloh Baptist Church, 238 Bright Ave., will celebrate Family and Friends Day during worship at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 18.

The combined choirs will render music and Pastor Rev. Ricky Tigner will deliver the message. Visiting family and friends will receive special recognition.

Series to open

WARREN

Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St., NE, will present the West Shore Chorale in a program of “Hymns, Spirituals and Folk Songs” at 4 p.m. Oct. 18 to open the 2015-16 Arts on Atlantic Series.

The chorale is an 80-voice choral ensemble that has performed for 46 years in the Cleveland area. The chorale presents varied selections. It has performed more than 80 major/orchestral compositions.

John Drotleff has been the conductor since 1984. He has directed choirs and taught music in Northeast Ohio since 1961.

The event is open to all. A free-will offering will be taken. For information, call 330-372-4998.

Weekend retreat

YOUNGSTOWN

NOW Youngstown Inc. will sponsor a weekend retreat from 1 p.m. Oct. 31 to noon Nov. 1 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, with Vince Lisi.

Sessions and meditations are “The Vision: Everything is in Motion,” “Humans are Motion as Well,” “Actualizing Our Potential” and “The Bigger Picture.”

Cost is $105 for workshop and meals only, $140 for workshop, meals and overnight accommodations at the center and $235 for workshop, meals and overnight for couples. There will be dinner on Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning. Those attending are asked to bring personal snacks and beverages and snacks to share as well as a pen and notebook or journal. Dress is casual.
