Neighborhood Ministries plans benefit dinner and auction

Neighborhood Ministries, which helps families living in challenging neighborhoods and situations, will sponsor Shining Light, a benefit dinner and chance auction, Oct. 23 at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road.
Antone Ferrell is the guest speaker for the evening. He was born and raised in Youngstown. As a child, he attended Neighborhood Ministries’ afterschool programs at what was the Kimmel Brook Community Center on the East Side. After serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, he and his wife, Misty, founded Calvary Chapel East San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, where he currently serves as senior pastor. He earned a bachelor of theology degree from Wayland Baptist University. The Ferrells have been married for 13 years and have four children.
Neighborhood Ministries operates three neighborhood centers– Kirwan Homes Community Center in Campbell and Rockford Village Community Center on the East Side and the West Side Community Center, both in Youngstown. Programs include a children’s summer food program with sites throughout Mahoning County and various youth programs including afters chool tutoring and summer meals. Proceeds from the Shining Light event will help Neighborhood Ministries continue providing these services.
Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 featuring tossed salad, penne pasta with red sauce, meatballs, parsley potatoes, green bean almondine, stuffed chicken breast, rolls and butter and beverages.
Gift baskets and gift certificates from area businesses and partners will be auctioned.
Tickets are $35 per person or a table of eight for $275 and may be purchased online at ohionm.org or by calling 330-755-8696. The deadline for ticket sales is Thursday.
