On Sept. 22, the Canfield Middle School boys and girls cross country teams places 14th and fourth, respectively, at the Suburban League Championship Meet in Canfield. Running for the boys were Stephen Pacheco (12:20.8), Bobby Smallwood (12:25.7), Trent Childers (12:37.5), Nick Colonna (14:03.3), Connor Cutrer (14:06.1), Michael Halchuck (14:13.5), Zach Russo (14:37.9), Tyler Cole (14:44.7), Ethan Scalzo (15:28.7), Aaron Ferguson (15:35.8) and Chris Smith (22:00.3). Middle school girls cross country places second at Mahoning County Championship

On Sept. 29 the Canfield Middle School girls cross country team places second at the Mahoning County Championship meet in Austintown. The boys team also ran. Running for the boys were Trent Childers (12:44.3), Stephen Pacheco (12:45.8), Bobby Smallwood (12:48.9), Tyler Cole (13:32.3), Michael Halchuck (14:30.8), Zach Russo (14:35.3), Ethan Scalzo (15:05.3), Aaron Ferguson (15:24.7), Connor Cutrer (15:32.2), Nate Hlaudy (17:20.5) and Chris Smith. Running for the girls were Ellie Accordino (12:49.9), Camryn Kohout (12:56.7), Steffie Marciniak (13:46.5), Kami Childers (14:02.0), Shaylea Plant (14:05.7), Christine Bennett (14:06.4), Marissa Ieraci (14:22.8), Jordan Helmick (14:24.7), Morgan Carey (15:18.8), Morgan Hoover (15:24.2), Lexsi Hawkes (15:35.6), Maddie Ritter (16:28.7), Cameron Hoover (17:16.4), Erin Bell (17:17.1), Gia Martin (17:38.6), Brianna Dunlap (17:49.9), Anna Kerensky (19:21.2), Hannah Edwards (20:37.3) and Ella Mitchell.

Boys soccer wins against Lakeside

The Canfield boys varsity soccer team won 8-0 against Ashtabula Lakeside on Oct. 1. Sophomore Justin Montazeri had four goals, sophomore Sam Accordino had two goals, sophomore RJ Thomas and Junior Tanor English had one goal each. Christian Hume had two assists, and Trevor Wilson, Alex Petrallo and Will Files had one assist each. Jeff Joseph and Nick Piersante each had one save against Lakeside. Canfield is now 8-1-1 for the season and 5-1-1 in the AAC Red.

Canfield volleyball aces Hubbard

On Sept. 29, the Canfield volleyball team beat Hubbard in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-21. For Canfield, Morgan Leonard 11 kills and 13 points; Emma Hartshorn had 30 assists; Jessica Meissner had 20 digs and 11 points; Maddy Johns had eight blocks.

Canfield soccer defeats Warren Harding

On Sept. 29, the Canfield boys varsity soccer team beat Warren Harding 3-0. Scoring goals for Canfield were RJ Thomas, Tanor English and Ben Feuer. Christian Hume and Jowad Atway both had assists. Jeff Joseph had seven saves for Canfield. Canfield’s record now stands at 7-1-1 and 4-1-1 in the AAC Red.

Canfield Local Schools announces youth basketball skill academy

The Canfield High School boys’ basketball program will be hosting the annual Cardinals’ Basketball Youth Skills Academy in preparation for the 2015-2016 basketball season. All current Canfield fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys are eligible participants. The first night of The Academy will be on Nov. 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Canfield Village Middle School. Hall of Fame nominations being accepted
