Bar owner arrested

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested the owner of a South Side bar on an aggravated menacing charge Wednesday after he was accused of waving a gun in a customer’s face.

Police were called about 8:40 p.m. to the Southern Tavern, 1508 Glenwood Ave., where a man said the owner, David Drummond, 76, told him to leave and waved a gun in his face.

Reports said Drummond admitted to police he had a gun in his pocket, a loaded .22-caliber Derringer. Drummond said he wanted the man out of the bar because the man was selling drugs in the restroom. Drummond was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Boardman pair cited

YOUNGSTOWN

Police cited a Boardman couple after a car was in a hit- and-run accident at about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday at Hillman and West LaClede avenues.

Reports said witnesses pointed out the car to police on West LaClede Avenue, and when it was pulled over, the driver, James Gross, 53, had an open can of beer inside and appeared to be very drunk.

A passenger, Rocca Ford, 36, also appeared to be very drunk, and the vehicle had heavy front-end damage. Reports said Gross and Ford were taken out of the car, and it was searched. Police found three pills in Ford’s purse. Gross could not perform a field sobriety test so he was taken to the police station for a breath test, but the machine was not working so a urine sample was taken instead. Ford was cited for possession of drugs. Gross was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, reports said.

Sentenced in robbery

WARREN

Garry A. Ambrose, 39, of Everett East Road in Hubbard was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas court after pleading guilty to robbing the Flying J truck stop in November 2014.

Ambrose put a gun to the face of a clerk, took money out of the drawer and ordered the cashier and her manager to get on the floor.

The next night, a female called the business and said the money from the robbery had been placed in a trash barrel on the property. Police recovered the money from the barrel. About 5 percent of what was taken was missing.

Father-son dispute

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a man on charges of domestic violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm at about 10 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 100 block of Halleck Street.

Reports said police were told by the teen son of Raymond Spires, 59, that Spires attacked him when the son asked if he could finish playing a video game before cleaning a dish. The son said the father choked him, retrieved a 9mm pistol and told him, “I brought you into this world, and I’ll take you out,” reports said. Spires said it was his son who pointed a gun at him, but reports said Spires was determined to be the aggressor and was taken into custody. Police also found a 9mm handgun in the home.
