OSHP awaits report
YOUNGSTOWN
The head of the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said it may take several weeks to determine if charges should be filed in the death of a bicyclist about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at East Midlothian Boulevard and Interstate 680.
Lt. Nakia Hendrix said Wednesday that troopers need to await a report from the Mahoning County Coroner’s office as well as the results of an accident reconstruction done at the site. The state is handling the investigation because that part of the road also is known as state Route 170.
Killed was Daniel S. Krotky, 48, of Youngstown, who reports said was riding his bicycle eastbound in the westbound lane when he collided head-on with a car driven by Clydine Watson, 86, of Struthers. Wilson continued on for a short distance before her car was stopped by police, Hendrix said.
Hendrix said when the investigation is completed, the results will be given to the Mahoning County Prosecutors Office to see what, if any, charges should be filed.
Firing range at base
VIENNA
The U.S. Senate approved a bill that includes $9.4 million for an indoor firing range at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna.
The Senate approved the bill Wednesday by a vote of 70-27.
U.S. Senator Rob Portman, a Republican from the Cincinnati area, said, “The Youngstown Air Reserve Station has become a model for other Air Reserve stations throughout the country, but if we want to maintain this level of high performance, we must upgrade this firing range facility. This critical funding would help to ensure that our Reservists in Youngstown are equipped with the skills needed to carry out their operations. I’m pleased that this funding authorization has passed the Senate and urge the president to reconsider his veto threat.”
